Walk the walk

If you can't walk the walk, do not talk the talk

Yes, we hear this saying often, but are we really listening to it?  In Christian education, it is important to make sure what we are saying to others, especially students and parents, we are doing ourselves. We need to be setting an example for our students to follow and we should be pointing them to salvation.  Why does that seem to be such a problem in today's world?  Each and every day we as Christians should be encouraging others, praying for others, and sharing Jesus with others.  Are we in fact doing that?  Each and every day that we teach our students, we are teaching them through a Biblical worldview.  Take the teachings of the Scripture and use those Scriptures to live our daily life.

When it comes to our students, is the life and lessons we are presenting to them with a Biblical worldview the ones we are striving to live up to ourselves?  If you can't walk the walk, don't talk the talk.  I heard this many times as I was growing up.  Yet, there is one huge dynamic that I did not have to deal with as I was growing up that kids have to deal with now.  The internet is a great way to communicate with others.  The question is, what are you communicating to others?  Is it real or is it make believe?  It is very easy for Christians to be vocal and portray our lives to be as though we are sitting at the right hand of Jesus. Very seldom do you see a post about the negative things that are going on in our everyday lives.  No, the things people like to share are only a reflection of the positive things in their lives.  How big their house is, their new car, their vacation trips, and just how "blessed" they are.  When we see these things, it is easy to compare our own lives to theirs.

Social media has driven a wedge between the Biblical worldview that we have been teaching our students and the real world.  We teach our students that the Lord wants us to be separate and apart from the sinful world in which we live, but are we living our own lives separate and apart from the sins of the world?  This is where social media rears its head.  People will post anything on social media, especially students.  Worldly videos, songs, dress, and the list goes on.  If they do not post on these things, they are busy liking a post involving these very things we are teaching them to stay away from.  Then they will come back to church and school acting as though what they posted was okay because they were not at church or school.  Those two worlds are the same because you are supposed to be the same.  How is it okay for students to post such things as that?  When will we as parents and leaders hold students accountable for their behaviors?  Sadly, instead of holding them accountable, parents are trying to explain away the behavior of their children.  One thing is for sure, even when nobody is watching, Jesus is always watching.

Jesus came into this world to seek and to save that which was lost.  That includes all of us.   We all have a soul that will spend eternity somewhere.  If we have a burden for our students and their families, we will begin to pray for them.  Pray for them daily.  Most of all, we should be demonstrating to them how we should be living what we are preaching.

I pray each and every one who reads this will have a wonderful week and will share Jesus with at least one person!
